2 June 2019 – According to the annual Good Country Index, Croatia has been declared among the Top 10 countries in the world for looking after the planet and climate.
The Good Country Index measures how much each of the 153 countries on the list contribute contributes to the common good of humanity and to the planet.
Using a wide range of data from the U.N. and other international organisations, countries are ranked in seven categories – Science and Technology, Culture, International Peace and Security, World Order, Planet and Climate, Prosperity and Equality, as well as Health and Well-being with Croatia ranked 9th in the world for Planet and Climate, Pun Kufer reported.
“The idea of the Good Country Index is simple: to measure what each country on earth contributes to the common good of humanity, and what it takes away, relative to its size.”
Data measured in the planet and climate category include a nation’s ecological footprint, environmental agreements and compliance, hazardous pesticides, renewable energy share and ozone.
Norway, Switzerland, Portugal, Slovenia and Cyprus were the Top 5 nations.
In the overall rankings across all categories, Finland was ranked number one, followed by Ireland, Sweden, Germany and Denmark. Croatia ranked 58th overall.
