IMOTSKI, 15 May 2019 – In the small Croatian town of Imotski, the density of Mercedes-Benz vehicles is higher than anywhere in the world.
An agreement with Germany back in the 1960s saw a large number of Imotski locals head off to work there and then return back to the town with a Mercedes-Benz. The car was seen as a symbol of success and today is still deeply associated with the town.
Out of 20,000 registered vehicles in Imotski, 13,000 of them are Mercedes. Even the driving schools in Imotski all have Mercedes cars as well as the fire brigade and local funeral parlour.
The town is to erect a monument dedicated to connection with the famous car brand and this week plans were presented to the public.
The monument features a real-size cult Mercedes 115 model car in stone surround by a garden and s stone wall.
This Sunday, on 19 May, the Imtoski Old-timers Club will open an exhibition of old Mercedes-Benz vehicles. Over 30 old-timer Mercedes from Croatia and 14 cars direct from the Mercedes-Benz museum in Stuttgart will be presented at the exhibition in the centre of Imotski, Slobodna Dalmacija reports.
